Removed from Service: c1947

Fate: sold for commercial use - renamed Capitaine Simard.  Sold for scrap 1982. Broken up by 1984

 

Built in 1944 by Montreal Drydock Ltd. as HMCS BIRCHTON for the Royal Canadian Navy - commissioned 04 Nov 1944. In 1947 she was sold to Marine Industries Ltd. of Sorel, Quebec and renamed Capitaine Simard. The tug was transferred to Richelieu Dredging Inc. in 1972. Sceptre Dredging Ltd. purchased the tug in 1977, and she retained her name. Techno Maritime of Quebec, QC purchased the tug in 1981, and by this time she had already been retired from active service. The Capitaine Simard was sold for scrap at Petite-Riviere-St-Francois, Quebec in 1982, and cut up there by 1984.
