On 04 Mar 1943 while accompanying convoy KMS.10 from Britain to Algeria, HMCS ST CROIX (A/Lt.Cdr. Andrew Hedley Dobson, DSC, RCNR) assisted HMCS SHEDIAC in destroying German Sub U 87.

 

U-87 was laid down on 18 April 1940 at the Flender Werke (yard) at Lübeck as yard number 283 and launched/ commissioned on 21 June 1941. She sank five ships in her one-year career; she was a member of five wolfpacks.  She was sunk off the coast of Leixões, Portugal during her fifth combat patrol, in March 1943. Of her crew of 49 there were no survivors.
