The U.S. Navy Service School was established in 1940 at the Ford Rouge plant in Dearborn, Michigan, to train sailors for roles like machinists, metal smiths, and diesel engineers. While this historically housed training, the primary modern training site for Michigan recruits is Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, IL
