Died: 18 Dec 1989, Ottawa, Ontario

 

BUTLER, Esmond Unwin - Served in HMCS Stormont and HMCS Algonquin during WWII. After the war he transferred to the RCN(R) and served in HMCS York and HMCS Carleton. He retired from the RCN(R) in 1959 at the rank of LCdr. (Source: Canadian Navy Lists / The Nauticapedia)

 

After WWII, Esmond Butler went on to serve from 1955-1957 as Press Secretary to the Governor General of Canada, then from 1957-1959 as Assistant Press Secretary to The Queen, 1959-1985, Secretary to the Governor General of Canada, 1986-1988, Canadian Ambassador to Morocco. Made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) by the Queen in 1972, made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1986. HMCS STADACONA (Depot ship) - Appointed to Stadacona for Commodore, Halifax, Fixed Defences and Extended Defence Staff 28 Jun 1943 as a SLt, RCNVR (Navy List Aug 1943)

HMCS STORMONT - Appointed to Stormont 10 Nov 1943 as an A/Lt, RCNVR (Navy List Feb 1944). Commissioning crew. Served in Stormont as Signals Officer.
