Born: 26 Jul 1932, Ottawa, Ontario

 

Died: 26 Apr 2020, Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

O'REILLY, John Joseph (JJ)  - Age 87, of Dartmouth, passed away on April 26, 2020, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII. Born and raised in Ottawa, he was the son of the late Whit and Eve O'Reilly. JJ moved to Halifax when he joined the Navy. He was Chief Petty Officer - RCN 1949-1974, RCMP 1974-1992 Dartmouth/Halifax Airport, Member of the Lions Club 1973-present, Past District Governor 1986-87, Council Chairman 1987-88, World President Lions International Stamp Club 1988-89, Life Member of Lions International - 44 years, Life Member of P.D.G. Lions, Life Member Lions Foundation of Canada (Dog Guides). JJ received many certificates and awards, Red Cross Certificate 35-year Donor, Queens Jubilee Medal, several Legion Appreciation Awards, Government of Nova Scotia, Veterans of Korean War, Royal Canadian Life Membership - 30 years, Certificate of Recognition Korean War, Legionaire of the Year. He is survived by his daughters, Rose Anne (Randy Shrum), Debbie (Scott Smith), son; John (Bev Carr); grandchildren, Jarrett and Sarah Shrum, Daniel Smith, Lauren Wilson, great-granddaughter; Addilyn Smith and baby girl Wilson due in July 2020; many nieces and nephews in Canada/United States. JJ was predeceased by his wife in 2003, Justine "Teeny", sisters; Mary Ledger, Eleanor Tucker, Patricia Laird. A celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to: Veterans Memorial Garden - Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building, QEII; the SPCA, Canine Vision - Lions Foundation of Canada, Feed Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
