HARRISON, Roy P. - Peacefully, on April 3, 2006, after a prolonged illness, Roy passed away. He was predeceased by Annette, his wife of 59 years in 2001 and by his parents. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Todd, wife Gail and granddaughters, Lisa and Andrea; his daughter Beryl Harrison; and daughter Sandra Radclyffe, husband Bob and granddaughters, Lauren, Carly and Amanda. Also left to remember him are his brother Noel (Janey); sisters, Margaret Anstey, Ruth Anstey and numerous nieces and nephews; very dear friend Joyce Bashucky and many treasured neighbours and friends. Roy was born and raised in Winnipeg, the youngest son of William and Emma Harrison. He spent his childhood growing up on McAdam Avenue and was very proud of his north end roots. Roy enlisted in the Canadian Navy and was called to active duty in July 1942. In the early 1950s Roy and Annette moved their young family to Palliser Avenue in Silver Heights, where he continued to live until his passing. He was very creative and had a talent for carpentry which he used to make much of their home furniture. He also designed and built a cottage at Dauphin Lake where the family spent many enjoyable summers. In 1968 Roy's abilities as a carpenter were once again required when he and Annette purchased and renovated a log cabin at Caddy Lake in the Whiteshell. They spent every summer there until they sold the property in 2000. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff of the third floor Grace Hospital for their care and compassion during Roy's last days. A celebration of Roy's life will be held on Friday, April 7 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with Rev. Bill Corkum of Sturgeon Creek United Church. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation (Manitoba Chapter), P.O. Box 1942, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R2 or a charity of choice in Roy's memory. (Winnipeg Free Press 05 Apr 2006)

Roy's brother Noel Harrison also served in the Navy during the Second World War.
