Laurier Stanley (Bud) Rafuse

Died: 04 Sep 1994, Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

RAFUSE, Laurier Stanley (Bud) - 71, Chester, died September 4, 1994, in Camp Hill Medical Centre.

 

Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Stanley and Rita (Durling ) Rafuse. 

 

He attended Acadia University for two years before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy, completing officer training at HMCS KINGS. As a Sub-Lieutenant, he served on convoy duty and at the end of the war was stationed in Scotland.

 

In 1945, he joined Rafuse Motors, retiring as president in 1977. From 1983-93, he and his wife were the proprietors of the Teazer, Mahone Bay. He was a past president of Bridgewater Kinsman Club and served on Kinsman District 7 executive. He was a past commodore of LaHave River Yacht Club and the Nova Scotia Schooner Association. He served on the board of the Bridgewater Arena, the Dawson Memorial Hospital, the Bridgewater Developmemt Commission, Bridgewater Board of Trade and the Canadian Automobile Association. He was a campaign co-ordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society; an elder of Bridgewater United Church; member of Bridgewater Curling Club; Bridgewater Legion and an active volunteer of the Bridgewater Fire Department.

 

He is survived by his wife, the former Lynn (Gladwin) Thompson; three sons, Gregory, Laurie, Eric; daughter, Lezlie (Mrs. David Morgan); stepchildren, Krista (Mrs. Brian Melanson), Frederick Thompson; nine grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Audrie Mahon.

 

He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Claire Mosher.

 

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bridgewater United Church, Hillcrest Street.
