Died:  15 Jul 2000, 

 

TURNER, Allan Bower - On Saturday, Jul 15, 2000 in his 77th year, at the Perley Rideau Veteran's Health Centre. Predeceased by his dear wife of 53 years, Patricia. Survived by his 4 children, Allan, Patricia, David and Margaret; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. Allan's career with the Canadian Military encompassed all branches of the Canadian Forces and spanned yearly 30 years. He started in the Canadian Army in 1939 at the rank of Boy Soldier and was promoted to Sergeant at age 18. He was transferred to the RCAF and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in 1944 earning Air Gunner qualifications. He transferred to the RCN and was commissioned as a Warrant Officer in 1947. The remainder of his military career was served in the RCN where he saw service in Korea aboard HMCS NOOTKA. He retired in 1968. At the request of the deceased, there will be no services. Ashes to be scatter at sea. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Parkinson's Society. "I must go down to the sea again . . . and all I ask is a tall ship and a start to steer her by."

 

LCdr Allan B. Turner's ashes were Committed to the Sea from HMCS FREDERICTON on 06 May 2001.
