REAL, Clare Andrew, AB, V12453, RCNVR, MPK - 10 Feb 1942, HMCS SPIKENARD - Son of Mrs. Florence Real, Edmonton, Alberta.

 

AB Real died when his ship, HMCS SPIKENARD, was torpedoed and sunk by U-136, about 465 nautical miles west of Malin Head, Ireland while escorting convoy SC-67. Of her crew of 65, there were only 8 survivors. He joined the navy on September 26, 1940, and left for Halifax in April, 1941. He was 27 years of age and attended Eastwood and Technical Schools. He had a brother John Real who was also in the RCNVR.

 

Clare's brothers, John Blake Real and Harold Percival Real served in the RCNVR during the Second World War.
