James Francis (Jimmy Diamonds) Bragg

Able Seaman Marine Engineer, C.A.F. (Navy)

Born: 04 May 1958, North Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

Died: 24 Jan 2023, Calgary, Alberta

BRAGG, James Francis (Jimmy Diamonds) - Jim was born & raised in North Sydney the second of three brothers, one sister. He left home to join the Canadian Navy at 17 and served in HMCS Annapolis, also serving with the Honor Guard for Queen Elizabeth 2 at the Montreal Olympics (1976).

After closing his navy chapter he wrote and passed a Marine Engineer Ticket and began sailing as a Engineer Officer with several Merchant Shipping Companies.

After 15 years at sea Jim gave up sailing but not ships he joined Halifax Shipyards as a Marine Engine Fitter. While there he was involved from Laydown to Launch of the first few Navy Coastal Patrol Vessels, before leaving the shipyards he wrote & passed his Journeyman's Pipefitters Ticket with Red Seal. On leaving shipyards he began working Heavy Construction as a contract Pipefitter in the USA with the last 20 years spent in Northern Alberta and British Columbia mostly in the oil & gas industry.

Jim was a avid biker and in recent years he loved nothing better than getting out for a ride especially through the Rocky Mountains with the others members of his club Gears & Beers MC Calgary, AB.  I sailed, worked the shipyards and oil & gas industry with my little brother and if he has any regrets in passing I am sure it would be missing firing up that Harley and getting on the road with the club for this riding season.

Thanks to Gears & Beers members for all help to our family in Calgary.

Jim leaves behind his son Dylan and Dylan's mother Leslie brothers Jack (Sally), Paul (Twila), and sister Carmel (Allan) also numerous nieces & nephews.

Ships served in:

HMCS ANNAPOLIS
