PATRIDGE, William Edward (Bill) - at Civic Hospital, Peterborough on Saturday, November 8, 1986. William (Bill) Partridge of Cardiff, Ontario, in his 65th year, (retired employee of Carling-O'Keefe, Montreal), beloved husband of Margaret Hicks, dear father of Chris and his wife Jo-Anne of Bowmanville, Connie Foster and her husband Harvey of PEterborough and Craig and his wife Jane of R. R. 3, Bancroft, Grandfather of Kimberly, Timothy and Tammy. Beloved son of the late Owen Partridge and Maude Perkins. A memorial service will be held at the Comstock Funeral Home, 356 Rubidge St., Peterborough on Tuesday, November 11 at 3 p.m. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment St. John's Norway, Toronto. In memory of Mr. Partridge donations to the Kawartha Pine-Ridge Lung Association. (The Toronto Star 10 Nov 1986)

Five days after his 20th birthday, Bill enrolled in the RCNVR to serve his country during World War II. He began active service on 15 Oct 1942 as an Ordinary Seaman at HMCS YORK, Toronto, ON. His training continued at HMCS NADEN, Esquimalt, B.C., from 12 Dec 1942 to 1 Apr 1943. Bill began his service on the Canadian Fairmile B motor launch, ML Q067, which was part of the 75th Flotilla providing anti-submarine patrols, port defence and rescue duties. In March 1943 Bill began training as a submarine detector and on 9 Aug 1943 he was confirmed. 15 Oct 1943 Bill achieved the rank of Able Seaman. On 25 Jan 1944, Bill began his service on the river class frigate, HMCS NEW WATERFORD (K321), which was assigned to Escort Group 6, providing convoy protection in the most dangerous midsection of the North Atlantic route. Bill achieved the rank of Leading Seaman on 1 Nov 1944. Bill’s service on the HMCS NEW WATERFORD ended on 4 Jan 1945. He was demobilized.
