WAGAR, Donald Frank, AB, 2896, RCN, MPK - 25 Jun 1940, HMCS FRASER - Son of Clayton Dean Wagar, and of Francis W. Wagar, of Purple Springs, Alberta.
AB Wagar died when his ship, HMCS FRASER, was in a collision with HMS CALCUTTA 12 miles due west of Pointe de la Coubre light at the Gironde River mouth and sank as a result with the loss of 65 of her crew.
Donald was born on the homestead in the Abercrombie district east of Macklin, Saskatchewan. His father died while he was a boy, and his mother remarried and moved to Purple Springs. Donald was a student when he enlisted on March 01, 1937 as a boy seaman at Esquimalt, BC.
