James Kenneth (Jim) Dean

Born: 15 May 1941, Newcastle, Ontario

 

Died: 27 Dec 2003, Perth, Ontario

 

DEAN, James Kenneth (Jim) - Jim passed away peacefully at Lanark Lifestyles Retirement Residence on December 27, 2023, at the age of 82. He was the beloved husband of Ellen (nee Phillips) for over 60 years and the cherished father of Glenn. Jim was the proud grandfather of Nicole and Amanda and the great-grandfather of their respective children. He will be fondly remembered by his sister, Mary (Gamey) Lycett, by many nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. Jim was the son of the late Bessie and Ken Dean and was predeceased by his brother Ross.

 

Jim was raised on a farm in Newcastle, Ontario. He devoted over 33 years of service as a Marine Engineer in the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring as a C1ERA (Chief Petty Officer 1st Class, Chief Engine Room Artificer). He then worked for a private company in Ottawa for many years, on contract with the Department of National Defence.. He was aboard the HMCS Kootenay at the time of the explosion and fire in 1969, staying with the ship until its return to Halifax. Their motto "We Are As One" still stands true today.

 

Jim was very personable by nature, made friends everywhere he went and was deeply respected by many. The family wish to thank all the staff of Lanark Lifestyles for all their respect and loving care of Jim.

 

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date. In remembrance of him, donations to the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation - Perth Site, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, the War Amps, or any charity of your choice would be appreciated.
