In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
ENG, David Hing Toy - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chief Petty Officer Second Class David Hing Toy Eng, Royal Canadian Navy (Retired), who passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on the morning of May 1st, 2025.
David served his country with quiet pride and unwavering dedication, retiring after 38 years in the Royal Canadian Navy as an electrician. Rising to the rank of CPO2, he not only maintained the electrical systems that kept the fleet running but also took great pride in teaching and mentoring the next generation of naval electricians. He was deeply respected for his steady leadership, patience, and wealth of knowledge.
In retirement, David remained active and connected to the community, especially through his devoted volunteer work with the Royal Canadian Legion. He found great joy in giving back to fellow veterans, supporting events, and lending a hand wherever it was needed. The camaraderie, laughter, and sense of purpose he found there brought him much fulfillment in his later years.
Outside of his service and volunteer work, David found peace in life’s simple pleasures. He had a deep love for long drives through the countryside and along the water’s edge, often seeking out quiet roads and beautiful views. Whether it was the sparkle of the ocean or the stillness of a forest road, David always took time to admire the world around him.
David was predeceased by his beloved parents, George and Katherine Eng, and his brother Kenneth.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He leaves behind his beloved daughters: Lynn (Len), June (Jeff), Melinda (Chris), and Sarah (Scott). His grandchildren—Jeremy, Jordan (Brent), Patrick (Melissa), Alex, Conlan, David, Brooklyn (Chase), and Jacob—all brought him tremendous pride and joy.
He is survived by his sisters, Lin and Kathy, and his brothers, Robert and Garry, who shared in his memories, laughter, and stories across the years.
David will be remembered for his calm presence, quiet strength, and deep love for family, country, and community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the stories that will be told with love and laughter.
A service to celebrate David’s life will be held at Atlantic Funeral Homes, Dartmouth, on Friday, May 9th at 6:00 p.m. (Arbor Memorial)
