ARNOTT, Robert Sydney, LS ST, 2639, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - Son of James and Lillian Maud Arnott, of Montreal, Province of Quebec.
19 Aug 1936 - Commended for high degree of Gallantry and Seamanship when, as a member of the Whaler crew of HMCS SAGUENAY, proceeded to the rescue of the crew of the 1st motor boat of HMCS SAGUENAY at St. Heliers, Jersey Islands.
Leading Seaman Arnott died when his ship, HMCS MARGAREE, collided with the freighter SS Port Fairy while in convoy and was sunk. 143 of her crew were lost, 86 of them were survivors of HMCS FRASER.
