WELLS, Sylvia Iris June (née BALMER) - It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sylvia Iris June Wells on August 14,2025. Sylvia was born in Landis, Saskatchewan on June 21,1939 and raised on the prairies of Stony Plain, Alberta. She was the daughter of the late May and Lorne Balmer.

As a young adult With great excitement she joined the Royal Canadian Navy in Shelburne NS. While serving, she met her sweetheart Jack, married in 1961, and they started their lives together raising their three boys: Scott, Cory, and Dougie.

Sylvia had many interests throughout her life. She was an avid curling fan, a NY Yankees fan, and an extreme lover of Euchre. She volunteered with the elderly, spent time fishing at her camp in Mooseland, was a member of Wren's Association and Centennial Legion Branch 160, and played darts at Dartmouth Senior Centre. Later in life Sylvia enjoyed spending hours at Scott's cottage, playing cards, and going to car shows with Scott.

Sylvia spent her last years at Parkland on the Lakes where she met wonderful friends and could often be seen sitting in the "birds nest" having a cocktail overlooking the coming and goings of the foyer. Sylvia's biggest pride and joy was watching her grandchildren grow up and being involved in all their celebrations. Sylvia was always supportive and generous to each of her grandchildren and was known for teaching them to always "love each other". Sylvia recently became a great-grandmother and was delighted she could now carry the new title of "GG".

Sylvia is survived by her son Scott (Nina), daughter-in-law's Dawn and Cherri, grandchildren Cassie (Darryl), Thomas, Lauren, Courtney and Jeremy, great grandson Miles, sister-in-law Linda, niece Sandy, and nephew Craig. She was predeceased by her husband LCdr Jack Wells, sons SLt Cory Wells and PO2 Dougie Wells, sister Lorraine and brother Douglas. A celebration of life will take place at Atlantic Funeral Home in Dartmouth on Thursday, August 21 from 12:30-2:30pm. In lieu of flowers we imagine Sylvia would of appreciated if people held their loved ones close and always remember to "love each other". (The Halifax Chronicle-Herald 19 Aug 2025)
