CLICHE, Joseph Simon Jean Yves - of Nictaux Falls, NS.  Born March 23, 1953, in St-Martin-de-Beauce, Quebec; he was the eldest of 8 children. St-Martin was home until shortly after his 18th birthday when he enlisted in the Canadian Navy. Based in Halifax, he learned to speak English, sailed on the HMCS Fraser, Saskatchewan and Ottawa visiting many parts of the world. He met and married Ann in 1975. Although Yves loved the sea, he retired from the navy when his contract ended in 1976.

After a 2-year hiatus, during which he went back to school and worked several jobs, he enlisted in the Air Force and was sent to the School of Aerospace and Ordinance Engineering in Borden, Ont. to train as an Aircraft Structure Technician. His first posting to Greenwood found him working on the Argus, Aurora, Hercules and Labrador. From 1984 – 1988 the family moved to Baden, Germany where he was part of the maintenance team for the CF104 Starfighter, CF 18 Hornet and the T-33 T-Bird trainer. Subsequent postings to Gagetown, Bagotville and Shearwater saw him repairing the Twin Hewy, Kiowa, Sea King and Griffon helicopters. He retired from the military on March 20, 2008, clocking 35 years of service to his country and helping to keep many different aircraft in the air! Although most of his career was spent in other provinces, he was a proud Québecois and remained close to his roots.

Yves loved family gatherings, the outdoors, camping and travel. Unintimidated by any road, highway or amount of traffic, he drove his wife and young son throughout a good part of Europe and Scandinavia. Later back in Canada, he took his family on many a road trip, including Florida and across the country to British Columbia.

Yves faced his cancer diagnosis with courage and grace. He stayed true to his beliefs until his death on September 17, 2025. He will be missed by his wife Ann (Nixon); son Levi; daughter Hannah; grandchildren Abby and Leah; sisters Carmen (Mario), Martine (Richard); brothers Germain (Celine), Marc (Micheline) and Gilles (Lousie). He was predeceased by his parents Alcide and Yvette (Bolduc) Cliche; sister Sylvie; brother Francis; niece Chantal Tremblay; parents-in-law Bob and Irene Nixon; sister-in-law Ellen Saunders and brother-in-law Jack Nixon. Ann, Levi and Hannah would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Palliative Care, Valley Regional Hospital and Valley Hospice and the many wonderful friends and family who have lovingly supported us along this journey. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation.

There will be a Funeral Mass held 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 3, 2025, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Middleton with Father Michael Walsh officiating assisted by Rev. Deacon Don Boudreau. A reception for family and friends will follow the service.
