In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
BARR, Terrance James (Terry) - passed away, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on July 26, 2025 at Dartmouth General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, Terry was the eldest son of the late James and Patricia (Wraight) Barr.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Deborah (nee Boutilier); his son, Robert (Nadine); sister, Nancy (Leamon); brothers, James (Mary), Can (Marsha), John (Karen) and Frank; grandchildren, Kyle Barr (Breonna), Kaitlyn Barr (John); brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Mary Boutilier, and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his sister, Kathleen and cherished daughter Colleen Barr.
Terry served in the Royal Canadian Navy on HMCS ships Bonaventure, Crescent, Fraser, and Yukon. He worked at Coca Cola for several years as a salesman. He joined the volunteer fire department in Cole Harbour, eventually becoming a career fire fighter with the Department of National Defense at HMCS dockyard, retiring as Captain. Terry also worked with Midland Transport Ltd part time as a driver for a number of years.
Terry enjoyed traveling, especially with his camper in Canada and the United States. He also enjoyed wintering in Florida and South Carolina, he also enjoyed camping with his grandchildren and making memories. Terry loved meeting new people as he had a gift of the gab. He always had a sparkle in his eyes. Terry made a lot of people laugh with his jokes and stories, and had a smile that everyone knew him by. Terry also did model railroading, was a lover of trucks and collected many die-cast Trucks. 011ie, his furry friend, will miss his cuddles.
Terry honours and thanks his family, friends and acquaintances for their many acts of kindness and support. He also thanks the many healthcare professionals for their ongoing care and support during his illness.
Cremation has taken place.A celebration of life service will be held 11 am August 9 at the Church of Saint Andrew, corner of Forest Hills Parkway and Circassian Drive, Cole Harbour. Archdeacon Katherine Bourbonnier and Reverend Kyle Wagner officiating. Reception to follow at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth, all are welcome. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Donations in Terry's memory can be made to the Nova Scotia Cancer Society and/or the Church of Saint Andrew, Cole Harbour.
