Service information for:
Service info: I enlisted in the Navy in 1987. In early 1988 I was posted to CFRS CORNWALLIS Course 8803 - 8 Platoon for Basic Training. After Basic Training I was shipped off to Esquimalt where I took both my Basic Sea Environmental and TQ3A training to become a Naval Acoustic Sensor Operator 273. After passing that course I was posted to HMCS QU'APPELLE 264 which was stationed in Esquimalt. With QU'APPELLE being part of the Ttraining Squadron, we were at sea for as much as 290 days in my first full year, with SAMPLOY '89 being a highlight with port visits to Ketchikan Alaska and to Chile on the west coast of South America. In 1990 I tried out for the West Coast Gun Run Competition and made the cut. This took me to Halifax for the Nova Scotia International Tattoo. On completion of the Tattoo I returned to the QU'APPELLE and was promptly sent back to Halifax for my TQ5A. I passed that course second in my class, and once again returned to the QU'APPELLE. A few months later I decided not to renew my contract and became a civilian again in 1992.
Rik's father Richard (Rick) Kaminsky Sr., and his brother Cory Kaminksy also served in the Navy.
