In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
DALY, Douglas J. - After a difficult struggle, Doug sadly passed away at Dartmouth General Hospital with close family by his side. Doug was a kind and generous man who would give you the shirt off his back. His five Sunshines from the SPCA gave him comfort and companionship over many years. Doug was assertive but always listened to everyone, an attribute of a good mechanic. He used this talent for 25 years of service in the Navy/Forces, working on Trackers and Sea Kings at Shearwater and on HMCS Nipigon as Chief Warrant Officer for many deployments.
Doug had a love for speed. His early love of motorcycles, changed to Z28 Camaros, then to Corvettes, and finally his “special” Mustang. He and his wife Linda, travelled extensively with the Nova Scotia Corvette Club. In his spare time, he worked on Junior and Scott Kelly’s stock cars to satisfy his passion. Doug needed to see things done right. This motivated him to take on a position with MASCAR to make the rules fair for everyone.
Doug was a long time member of the “Tim’s Group” of Sackville Drive and will surely be missed.
After losing his wife Linda, in 1997, Doug lived alone with his faithful dogs until last year when he and his long time friend, Kathy, became partners. They enjoyed their new life together until his untimely passing.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Molly (Hunt) Daly and wife, Linda (Freeman). He is survived by his partner, Kathy Ramey, brother and sister in laws, Kevin and Marsha Freeman. He leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, chosen stepsons, and Sunshine #5, maintaining a special bond with each one.
Many thanks to the ICU staff of Dartmouth General Hospital for the excellent care and compassion shown Doug throughout his ordeal. A special thank you to Doug’s friends who showed their support and assistance whenever he was in need. You are truly the best!
There will be a graveside service held on November 11th at 2:00 at Pine Rest Cemetery, in Greenfield, Queens County, officiated by Rev. Janet Baker.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Kidney Foundation, SPCA, or charity of your choice. (Harbourside Regional Crematorium)
