HOOPER, Howard Freemont, Coder, V25654, RCNVR, Died:  07 Nov 1942, HMCS AVALON - Son of Harry and Eliza Hooper; brother of Horace and Harry Hooper, all of St. George, New Brunswick.  Husband of Claressa Hooper, Signal Hill Road, St. John's, Newfoundland

 

Coder Freemont died from accidental drowning when he fell of the jetty at St. John's Newfoundland.  He is buried in the St. John's Anglican Cemetery, St. John's, Newfoundland.

 

The finding of the Board of Inquiry found that HMC Dockyard St. John's is unsafe at night during blackout conditions and that some type of lighting system be installed on the wharf that will meet blackout requirements.

 

Coder Freemont is also listed in the Newfoundland Book of Remembrance.
