Died: 27 Jan 2026

 

FREEBORN, Larry Kenneth - The family of Larry Kenneth Freeborn of Abercrombie, NS is saddened to announce his passing on January 27, 2026 at the age of 88 years. He was born on November 17, 1937 in Bobcaygeon, Ontario to the late Delbert and Doreen (Nichols) Freeborn. He spent post of his adult life in Halifax.

 

Larry proudly served in the Canadian Navy for over 38 years, retiring with the esteemed rank of CPO1. During and after his military career, Larry channeled his discipline and precision into his passion for carpentry. His hands skillfully crafted not only woodworks but also homes. His workshop was a place of solace and creativity, where he spent countless hours perfecting his trade.

 

Larry's legacy is carried on by his loving and devoted wife, Catherine (Bryan/ Ballantyne), his children: Kenneth (Deborah), Michael (Barb Hawke) and Jennifer. His grandchildren, Michaella, Chloe and Zackery, will remember their Grampy for his love and guidance. As well as his step children Claire Tulle (deceased) and family, Karen MacNeil and family, By Ballantyne (deceased) and family, Heather Chieffo and family.

 

Larry was predeceased by his first wife Nedilca, second if Estelle and his siblings Eugene, Eric and Shirley. He is survived by his sister Beverly (Fred) Hamilton, Ont.

 

Larry had a big heart that was always ready to lend a hand or offer a word of support. His presence was a source of stability and warmth for all who knew him.

 

Larry will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the memories of those who loved him.

 

The family would like to thank all the incredible walking angels and friends that were a vital part of Larry's journey, we eternally thank you.
