Born: 02 Dec 1944, Deer Lake, Newfoundland

 

Died: 22 Jan 2026, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

 

COLBOURNE, Gerald (Gerry) - passed away on Jan 22nd, 2026. Born in Deer Lake, NF, son of late Arthur Colbourne & Lucy (Hann) Colbourne. He joined the R.C.Navy as a young man and served onboard "The Iroquois." Later, he changed to C.A.F. into finance. He served in Egypt, Lahr, Germany and within Canada. He retired from the military in 1985 as Petty Officer 1st Class (Warrant Officer) and commenced working with the Public Service-at Stadaconia, Halifax in " Movements F&E" where he retired in 2006. Gerald leaves behind his wife, Major (Ena) Lillian (West) (R) of almost 20 yrs. Married in Kingston, ON on August 12, 2006, she became part of a ready-made family, a son, Murray Colbourne, his wife, Janice and two grand daughters and their spouses- Micaela, spouse Johnathan Smith and Jenna, spouse Kevin O'Rourke. Gerald was pre-deceased by his first wife and their daughter, Joyce. He is survived by 2 sisters & spouses, Rosalyn Bastows & Florence Shepherd and other family members. His two sisters, Olive Holloway and Sylvia Spring and one brother, Ches (pre-deceased) Gerry will be fondly remembered by many good friends and co-workers. His life consisted of serving His Lord and others. He worked and volunteered with The Salvation Army, across Canada. The family greatly appreciates all those who added to his comfort and care, - Clayton Pk Parkland and QE2 (4.1) and Dr Harvey. A special thank you to J.A. Snow Funeral Home staff for their kind assistance. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be on Wed, Feb 4th at The Salvation Army Halifax West Church 50 Gesner St Fairview at 2pm. A reception to follow in the hall. The Interment will take place on Thursday, Feb 5th at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens on Main St at 2pm. A memorial gift may be given to The Salvation Army Halifax West Partners in Mission or charity of choice. (The Halifax Chronicle Herald 29 Jan 2026)
