KENNY, Edward Patrick - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Edward Patrick Kenny, CD, announces his passing on April 22, 2026, at the age of 83, at the Miller Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Ed was born on March 12, 1943, in St. John's, the son of Edward and Agnes Kenny. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Pauline Kenny (née Miller) (September 6, 1939 - March 3, 2011), who remained the love of his life; his parents, Edward and Agnes; and his siblings Gus and Patricia. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Kenny; grandchildren Justin, Stephanie (husband, Sandi) and Kristina; and great-grandson Jaxson; as well as his son Shawn Kenny (wife, Kate) and grandsons Owen and Ross, all of whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his siblings Alicia, Anita, Bren, Carm, Dave, Marilyn and Paula, as well as many nieces, nephews, shipmates and dear friends. Through his final years and his health challenges, Ed was supported by the love and care of his siblings.

Ed served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1962 to 1976, beginning as an Ordinary Seaman at HMCS Cornwallis and rising to the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class aboard HMCS Fraser. He served on eleven Canadian warships, including HMCS Bonaventure ("Bonnie"), Canada's last aircraft carrier. He completed his naval career with the appointment of Chief Boatswain's Mate ("the Buffer") of HMCS Fraser, the senior seaman of the ship's company. He carried the same skill, craft, and dedication into civilian life. He served as maintenance manager at the Aquarena, the City of St. John's aquatic facility, until 2010. He was recognized for his exemplary service with the Cy Hoskins Memorial Award for full-time recreation practitioner and continued to mentor others and serve until a few months before his passing.

Ed was a multifaceted character with a sharp intellect, keen memory and a sarcastic wit, along with a humorous tilt for practical jokes. Although reserved by nature, he was never one to hold back his opinion.

A burial service will be held at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Saturday, May 16 at 10:30 AM. A gathering will follow at the family home; please contact the family for details.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Ed and Joan to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.
