George Raymond Billard

Marine Engineer, RCN / C.A.F. (Navy)

Born: 24 Sep 1942          Died: 24 Apr 2026

BILLARD, George Raymond - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George Raymond Billard, age 83, on April 24, 2026. A man of quiet strength and deep devotion, George leaves behind a legacy of service, adventure, and an unwavering love for his family.

George was the proud father of Raymond (Denise) and Richard (Helga), and a loving stepfather to Janet (Shawn) and Richard (Ronalda). He was a grandfather to eight and a great-grandfather to four, all of whom he adored. George is also survived by his sister, Linda, and was fortunate to find companionship and love again in his later years with Frances MacDonald. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Liz), his parents, George and Lilly, and his brother, Matthew.

A veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, George's career took him around the globe. He took great pride in his service, from the prestige of presenting medals at the 1976 Montreal Olympics alongside Princess Diana, to the harrowing bravery he displayed during the HMCS Kootenay disaster in 1969. His heroism on that day, and the memory of the shipmates lost, stayed with him throughout his life.

In retirement, George was happiest in the outdoors—hunting, fishing with his brother Matt, or riding his ATV. He cherished family gatherings, whether they were summer barbecues, holiday dinners, or a simple afternoon tea. Some of his fondest memories were made at Falls Lake at Richard and Helga's cottage.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Bethune and Bayer's Lake dialysis clinics, and the team at Parkland Aberdeen. Special thanks to Liz's sisters, Susan and Allison, and to his dear friends Dieter and D-Ann Feth for their years of friendship and adventure.

As per George's wishes, there will be no funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or The Turkey Club (turkeyclub.org) to support families in need. (Atlantic Funeral Homes)
