DUCHESNEY, Clifford Samuel - Was born at Cape North, Victoria County, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia on May 12, 1936. He died at home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on June 22, 2026, aged 90 years.

His parents were Edith Gwynn Duchesney and Daniel Ranald MacDonald. Clifford was raised by his grandparents, Sylvanus Duchesney and Lydia Carter Gwynn Duchesney. He and his grandparents moved to Baddeck when Clifford was a boy.

Clifford attended Baddeck Academy and served briefly in the Canadian Navy before returning to Baddeck. He sailed on Canada's last aircraft carrier: HMCS Bonaventure. Clifford was a lifetime member of Branch 53 of the Royal Canadian Legion.

After military service, Clifford worked in trucking until he trained as a pipe fitter and travelled North America working on large construction projects. Clifford was a proud union man.

Clifford is survived by his wife Susan Duchesney (nee Darling) of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and his stepchildren Amanda, Alex and Lisa.

He is also survived by the children of his first marriage to Eleanor Fraser: Morgan (Diane), Lyn (Fred) and Carter (Joyce). His sister Margaret Gillis and brothers Charlie, Jimmy and Billy Phillips survive him as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Clifford (Kippy) was an avid reader of history and many other subjects. As a young man he enjoyed hunting, fishing, auto repair and drawing. Clifford also loved music, penning several ballads and playing guitar and banjo. He appreciated Cape Breton's culture and people and as an enthusiastic genealogist, he traced his families' origins back to their Gaelic, Norman and Viking roots.

Like many of his generation, Clifford had a very strong work ethic. He and his wife Susan started a property management business in New Hampshire after he retired from pipe fitting and Clifford worked well into his eighties. He loved to travel across North America and made a special trip to Scotland. He also loved visiting and socializing during his frequent Cape Breton visits. Clifford's spirit remained strong until the end and he will be missed by his family and friends. At his request, cremation has occurred and there will be no service.
