In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
LEES, John Thomas - It is with great sadness that the family of John Lees announces his passing on May 3, 2026 after a short illness. Born in Calgary on June 26, 1945 he is survived by his brother Bob, twin sister Judy (Murray), sons Steven and Sean (Sandy), daughters Cari and Karen (Michael), grandchildren Dakota, Alexis (Jordan) and Brittany, great granddaughter June and several nephews. John loved people and being involved with volunteering. He had a wonderful, playful sense of humour and was never at a loss for a quick comeback or witty comment. John graduated High School in Fort Saskatchewan and soon headed west to join the Royal Canadian Navy and served on several ships while sailing the world. He loved being on and near the ocean as proven by his long career working with B.C. Ferries and retiring to live out his life in Ladysmith. John decided to spend his winters in Mexico visitng family and meeting old and new friends. He was a part of many clubs including the Newcomers Club, The Miata Club, Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary, Ladysmith Eagles Aerie #2101 and Member in good standing in St. John's Lodge #21 MM, he also volunteered for many years with the Ladysmith Festival Of Lights. Later in life he took up painting just as his Mother had.
John's family is planning to have his ashes placed beside his ship mates on board HMCS Saskatchewan Memorial Reef outside of Nanaimo.
There will be a Celebration of John's Life held June 13, 2026 at the Eagles Hall on 1st Avenue, Ladysmith from 1 until 4 P.M. Donations in John's memory can be made to the Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary.
