RUSNAK, David Michael - Passed away on August 17, 2026, born on January 14, 1945. David had a very interesting life. He was born on January 14, 1945 to Lillian Cormer and named John Michael Vincent Lahti (Mikey). Due to war time conditions he was adopted at 11 months old to Helen and Michael Rusnak. His birth mother, Lillian Cormer, had 11 children; Jewel, Ralph, Billy, Chuck and Aileen have passed on. Barbara, Len, Sandra, Debbie, and Gordie continue to honour their connection to David. His 56 year marriage to Margaret Kartanson started on September 4, 1970. They had 3 children, Heather, Jeffrey (Jodi), and Kevin (Beth); 10 grandchildren, Paul (Gabby), Eric, Jaymie (Gage), Nathan (Anna), Noah, and Nevaeh, all living in Thunder Bay, Scotia, Evan, Hunter, Connor, all living in Gibbons, Alberta; 3 great-grandchildren, Lucy, Briar, and Miller (Bechard, all in Thunder Bay). David's work force years started in 1964 to 1968 as an able seaman on the ship HMCS Restigouche. Once he left the navy, he worked at the Ontario Hospital as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant, was a welder at the shipyards for 15 years and then moved on to BOC and Praxair in sales for welding equipment eventually retiring. He enjoyed the outdoors with his family and extended family, spending many summers camping in the region. David was a lifelong Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs fan. The family would sincerely thank Ontario Health at Home, Community Care Partners, Nursing Staff at VON and Paramed. We want to express love and hugs to the staff at the Manor House, 2 North and 5 South Hogarth who were all so supportive of David and Margaret for the past 5 months. As per David's wishes there will be no funeral, family will gather at a later date. (The Thunder Bay Chronicle Journal 22 Aug 2026)
