BEATON, Angus Francis - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Angus Beaton, who passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 6, 2026, at Shannex Parkstone (Point Pleasant Way) in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Angus was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia, on August 29, 1938. He was the third child born to Dan Angus and Catherine Beaton and grew up on the family farm in Blackstone as one of twelve loving brothers and sisters.
In 1957, Angus left home to join the Royal Canadian Navy, where he served aboard HMCS Algonquin and later as a member of the commissioning crew of HMCS Columbia. During his naval service, Angus stood on the Queen’s Guard during Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Canada in 1957. He was also honored to be part of the Canadian delegation that participated in Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations in 1960.
In 1961, Angus married the love of his life, Marilyn. Together they shared 65 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, family, and countless memories. Their journey took them from Nova Scotia to Ontario where Angus worked in automotive parts manufacturing at Gabriel Shock Absorbers, CCM, A.G. Simpson and Rhea international. Angus returned back home to Nova Scotia for retirement. Angus enjoyed traveling, spending winters in South Padre Island, and visiting destinations throughout Europe, South America, and the Caribbean. In retirement, Angus especially enjoyed their home overlooking the Bedford Basin, where they cherished time with family and friends.
Angus loved life and his enthusiasm was contagious, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and was proud to be the reigning camp euchre and cribbage champ. His legacy will live on.
Above all else, Angus was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest pride was his family. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, unwavering kindness, and the love he showed to those closest to him.
Angus is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marilyn; his sons, Daniel (Jacqueline) and Paul (Cindy); his grandchildren, Julie (John), Susan (Liv) Steven, Danielle (Tom) and Angela (Scott); his great grandchildren Jacob & Catherine his siblings Marie (Ron Martineau) Alexander, Marcella, Kevin (Mary), Margaret (Alex D MacDougall) Marion (Rannie Maclellan) Malcolm (Marguerite) his many nieces and nephews and countless friends who’s lives he touched!
Angus was predeceased by his parents Dan Angus and Catherine (MacLellan), sister, Theresa, and his brothers, Findlay, Ambrose (Cathy) and Martin (the late Joan) as well nephew Darren Martineau.
It is with sadness but fondness that we remember his life and legacy.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, and caregivers who provided Angus with compassionate care during his stay at Parkstone.
There will be a visitation at JA Snow Funeral Home on Wednesday August 12th from 3-6pm and Funeral Mass on Thursday August 13, at 10am at St Ignatius Catholic Church.
