Hunt Class Destroyer

This page is not meant to be a comprehensive history of HMS GROVE, but a record of sailors of the ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY who served in her, photos they took and stories they may have shared with their families.

HMS GROVE was a Hunt-class destroyer of the Royal Navy. She had been completed in early 1942 at the Swan Hunter yard at Wallsend-on-Tyne.

HMS GROVE, along with other ships of the 2nd Escort Group, ALDENHAM and LEAMINGTON, sank U-587 on 27 Mar 1942

On 12 Jun 1942, while escorting Convoy MW 11 during operation Vigorous, a supply convoy to Malta, Grove was hit by two torpedoes fired by U-77 and sank north of Sollum with the loss of 110 officers and men.
