COX, Gerald Albert (Jerry) - beloved husband of Irene of Calgary, passed away at his residence on February 20, 2008, at the age of 82. Jerry was born on February 7, 1926, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and grew up in the St. James area. Jerry is the loving father of Sean (Holly) of Teulon, Manitoba, and Sheila (Darren) of Calgary, Alberta. He will be truly missed by his grandchildren Heather (Rob), Jared, Devan, Bradley and Katelyn, and great-grandchildren Candra and Josh. Jerry is also survived by his older sister Jane Cox and youngest brother Al Cox both of Winnipeg. Jerry joined the Royal Canadian Navy (RCNVR) at the age of 17 years to serve his country on active duty on a corvette. He met and married his dear wifey Irene (Montgomery) while attending and teaching Sunday school at St. James Anglican Church, they shared 57 years together. They have always been dedicated Anglicans who are now members of St. Marks and St. Philips in Calgary. Jerry enjoyed every day of work with his peers on the research team for the Federal Department of Agriculture where he was employed until his retirement. He always took pleasure in his life long passion of fishing in Northern Manitoba with Irene and the family, which soon was handed down as a favourite family hobby with Sean and his grandsons. Jerry always enjoyed a good round of golf whether it be on the course or as an arm chair sports fan on the TV and also was an avid Bomber fan. Jerry and Irene retired to Calgary in 1999 to enjoy a new life with daughter Sheila and her family. Jerry faced many challenges of life with remarkable strength and dignity. He always had a smile to share no matter the circumstances. He will be remembered fondly by all, many nieces, nephews and friends will be remembering him as the jovial guy who truly cared for them and always enjoyed a good chuckle. Jerry's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of those that took a special interest in him with their kindness and compassion. Bless you. A memorial celebration of Jerry's life will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 195 Collegiate Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba (south of Portage Avenue), on Monday, February 25, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. officiated by The Ven Fletcher Stewart.
