Lawrence William (Larry) Butler

Petty Officer 1st Class Hull Technician, C.A.F. (Navy)

Born: 1950, Newfoundland

Died: 20 Aug 2022

BUTLER, Lawrence William (Larry) - It is with broken hearts that we announce Larry's passing on August 20, 2022. Larry was born in Newfoundland and grew up in Montreal - recently residing in Cornwall, ON.

Larry was a kind soul who often had mischief in his eyes. Known as "Grumpy" to his grandchildren, he was gruff on the outside but a teddy bear inside and he gave the very best hugs.

Larry retired as a Petty Officer 1st Class from the Canadian Armed Forces after a career in the Navy spanning 30 years. He sailed on many ships - from HMCS Annapolis to HMCS Iroquois (his favourite). Larry was posted from coast to coast including ANF Argentia and CFFS Esquimalt, though most of his time he was based in Halifax. Larry enjoyed his time as a Hull Technician on the ships and often reminisced about it. After he retired, Larry went on to work with the Commissionaires at CFB Borden.

Larry is survived by his cherished daughters Melanie Butler and Jacinda MacLeod (Bryan) of Halifax; precious grandchildren Kendrin Butler and Jack, Abbie and Katie MacLeod; his brother Jim Butler (Carole Tessier); his sisters Sheila Paul (Gary) and Patricia Butler (Mike Brault); his brother in law Parkyn Weber; his beloved nieces and nephews and their children; as well as Ryan and Jason D'Ambrosio and their families with whom he had a special bond.

Larry was predeceased by his parents Jean (White) and Max Butler and his sister Doreen Weber.

As requested, there will be a private celebration of life and burial at sea at a later date.
