JEWETT, George Sidney, CPO, 2227, RCN, MPK - 04 Oct 1944, HMCS RESTIGOUCHE - Son of Mr. and Mrs. David Jewett, of London; husband of Mary D. Jewett, of Victoria, BC.

 

Chief Petty Officer G. S. Jewett was carrying out his duties as Petty Officer of the watch on the morning of October 04, 1944. He was last seen at approximately 04:15 hrs. that morning proceeding forward from the stern of the ship. The weather was extremely bad with rough seas and a strong wind, and it is believed Chief Petty Officer G. S. Jewett was swept overboard while crossing the deck. All efforts were made to locate and rescue him were unsuccessful. His body was not recovered.
