They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
HOLLAND, Thomas Vincent Lt, RCNVR, MPK - 18 Mar 1945, HMCS GUYSBOROUGH - Son of Peter E. and Agatha (nee MacCormack) Holland, of Souris, Prince Edward Island. Bother of Joseph, Henry, Fr. Charlie, Mae, Anne and Beatrice. Nephew of Joseph and Thomas Vincent Holland. His uncle Joseph Holland had served with the Canadian Infantry (Nova Scotia Regiment) and died on September 23, 1918. His uncle Thomas Holland had served with the Canadian Infantry (New Brunswick Regiment) and died on August 27, 1918.
Lt Holland died died when his ship, HMCS GUYSBOROUGH, was torpedoed and sunk by U-868 in the Bay of Biscay with the loss of 53 of her crew. Lt Holland was injured when the torpedo hit but survived and made it to a carley float. Shortly after reaching the float he died of his injuries.
