Donald George (Don) Whyte

Died: 25 Apr 2023, Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

WHYTE, Donald George (Don) - Age 79 of Beaver Bank passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the VG site, QEII in Halifax due to a sudden illness. He was a son of David George Whyte and Helen (Cross) Whyte Duncan of Toronto. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Sharon (Potter) Whyte of Beaver Bank; son, David (Michelle) Whyte; grandchildren, Carter and Kylie of Switzerland, and daughter, Wendy (Troy) Forhan of Lower Sackville. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Whyte and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Don was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and he often spoke about them to anyone who would listen. He will be remembered as someone who could find a familiar face wherever he went. He was always willing to chat, armed with captivating stories and willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. At the age of 17, Don joined the Royal Canadian Navy where he served for over 30 years. After retiring from the military, he joined the Commissionaires Nova Scotia working both at the Halifax Bridge Commission and the Halifax Park’N Fly for almost another 30 years, until his passing. He thoroughly enjoyed his job, where he had the opportunity to meet and assist passengers while driving the shuttle bus at the Halifax Airport and working with his Park’N Fly family. In accordance with his wishes, Don was cremated and will be buried at sea. A service will be held at a later date to celebrate his life. Don's ashes were committed to the sea from HMCS SACKVILLE on 05 May 2024
