STANDING, Thomas, LS LTO, 2415, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - Son of Thomas J. Standing, and of Agnes Standing, of London; husband of Alice Standing, of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Leading Seaman Thomas Standing of Saskatoon was the son of Thomas J. and Agnes Standing of Leeds, South Yorkshire, England, and left a wife Alice at Vancouver. Thomas Jr. was born in South Yorkshire, England on a farm where he was a labourer when he enlisted on September 23, 1929 as a boy seaman at Esquimalt, British Columbia. Leading Seaman Standing died when his ship, HMCS MARGAREE, was struck by the freighter SS Port Fairy while in convoy and was sunk. 143 of her crew were lost, 86 of them were survivors of HMCS FRASER.
