Edward Freeman Reid

Boatswain, RCN / C.A.F.

Born: 03 Jun 1941

Died: 07 Oct 2022, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

REID, Edward Freeman - 81, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital on October 7, 2022. He was a son of Edgar and Bessie Reid (Cumby) of Green's Harbour, Trinity Bay NL.

He was a proud 35 year, decorated, veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, and a survivor of the HMCS Kootenay explosion in 1969. He served on many different vessels during his tenure, and was able to explore the world.

He was an avid, self-taught, musician mostly playing guitar. He loved to have a good kitchen party and was the life of the party, often having everyone to the house for a time!

He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons, and loved his daily crossword puzzles with Patricia. What he enjoyed most was having friends and family around him for a chat, laugh, and a big scoff.

Edward was predeceased by the love of his life Corinne Reid (Schnare), married for 56 years "they lived in each other's pockets". He was also predeceased by sister Peggy Barrett, and half-brother Fred Reid.

Edward is survived by his loving family, sons James of Shelburne; Donald (Paula) of Winnipeg; Dennis (Sheila) of Fort McMurray; daughter Patricia (Brian) of Dartmouth. Sister Joan, and brothers Donald and Len. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tammy, who cared for him over the past 6 years.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Edward's name to the local SPCA, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
