Died: 24 Jan 2003, Strathmore, Alberta

 

PARKIN, George Thomas Ralph - Born January 12, 1929 in Toronto, Ontario, passed away January 24, 2003 at the Strathmore & District Hospital. Dad was predeceased by his father James Parkin, his mother Lucy Large (Parkin), sister Rosetta Large and his loving wife Sally Ann Roy (Parkin). George is survived by his four loving and devoted children, Lucy (Shorty) Hanson, Strathmore, Patricia Parkin, Calgary, George (Elly) Parkin, Innisfail, Constance (Mark), Calgary; eight grandchildren, Sally, Nick, Matt, Leah, Kyle, Samantha, Dorian and Max. George also leaves behind his sister Muriel Coutu, Strathmore; a brother Jim (Anne) Parkin, Barrie, Ontario; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. George joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1945 at the young age of sixteen. He was overseas in the Korean War in 1947 and came home where he met his future bride Sally Ann Roy, they were married on December 18, 1954 in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. Dad served in the service for twenty-five years retiring in 1970. He moved his family to Strathmore in 1972. Dad worked for Western Irrigation and then was a special constable with the City of Calgary Police Service. Dad's interests were his love of music, bingo, darts and playing cards. George was a member of the Legion No. 10 in Strathmore and also the Legion in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A Memorial Service will be held at the Strathmore Legion on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Gil Arthur in attendance. The family of George Parkin would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the nursing staff and doctors and the special care nurses, Eva and Evey of Strathmore. Your kindness and understanding at this time in our lives will never be forgotten.
