NORRINGTON, Barry Hughes - beloved husband of Roberta Anne Norrington (nee Rodman) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the age of 88 years.

 

Barry was born in Picton, Ontario on March 2, 1931.He moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1945.

 

He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1950 and served until 1955, in which time he saw two tours of duty in Korea.

 

Barry married Roberta in 1975. Together they raised a family and travelled all corners of the world.

 

Barry accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of being a devoted life-member of the 264 branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. His time spent supporting the #22 RCSCC UNDAUNTED Sea Cadets brought him great fulfillment over the years.

 

After serving in the Navy, Barry joined AGT and retired in 1987, after 32 years of service.

 

Besides his loving wife Roberta, Barry is survived by his brother Brad (Angela), his sons Murray (Jane), David (Char) and his daughter Cindy (Mike), seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

 

Barry was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Doris Norrington, and his sister Bonnie Johnston.

 

Memorial Service will be held at Calgary Crematorium Chapel, 3219 4th Street NW, (within the valley of Queens Park Cemetery) on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home.

NORRINGTON, Barry Hughes - was born in Picton, Ontario in 1931. He joined the Reserve Army in Calgary in 1948 and when the Korean War began, he joined the Navy at HMCS Tecumseh. After completing basic training at HMCS Cornwallis, Barry was drafted first to the aircraft earner HMCS Magnificent, then to the cruiser HMCS Ontario for a Royal Visit, and then to the frigate HMCS Antigonish in Esquimalt, BC. Barry did two tours in Korea on the destroyers HMCS Crusader - the `train busting champion' of UN forces in Korea - and a Peacekeeping Duty tour on HMCS Cayuga. Barry is a Life Member of the Calgary Naval Veterans Association and has served as editor and president. He holds a Life Membership in Kensington Legion Branch 264 in Calgary. He was involved in the Field of Honour upgrades at Queens Park Cemetery and was Liaison Officer for the Undaunted Sea Cadets. Barry is still an active supporter of the cadet movement and the naval community.
