Ian Butters joined the RCNVR on 29 Jun 1937 as an OS. He was rated AB on 21 Apr 1939, A/LS on 01 Aug 1941. He was commissioned from the ranks and as appointed Prob. SLt, RCNVR 10 Aug 1942.
